Register.com has accused Domain Registry of America (DRA) of using inappropriate methods to induce customers to switch registrars. Apparently, DRA distributed to customers promotional material which led recipients to believe that DRA was affiliated with Register.com.

The company alleges that DRA is guilty of false advertising, unfair business practices, unfair competition, and violation of federal trademark laws.

Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York granted an injunction against DRA. The judge called DRA's behavior "Domain Registrar Slamming", in recognition of parallels with techniques employed by long distance telephone service carriers.
