Xenophobia Online
Posted by Paul Szynol on Saturday, September 28 @ 12:39:28 EDT Copyright
Freemyheart.com, operated by a Matthew Lankford of Seattle, allegedly featured a bootleg of Prince's Xenophobia concert series until the performer filed a copyright-infringement suit in a federal court in Minneapolis last Wednesday. Prince has filed at least nine similar suits in the past. In this case, Prince is apparently asking Lankford to pay damages to the tune of $150,000 per song.

In his defense, Matthew Lankford says, "What he's claiming is that I put up files on my Web site. What happened is I put up links to other Web sites that had files on them." Lankford claims, moreover, that he never tried to turn a profit, but simply wanted to promote one of his favorite artists.

There is a debate on the subject at Prince.org.
