C|Net News picks up on Prof. David E. Sorkin's Don't Link to Us website, which ridicules stupid linking policies (Web site flouts linking bans). The article has some nice quotes from a couple of the sites featured on "Don't Link to Us." Law.com will be reconsidering its policy, while the American Cancer Society insists on patronizing its audience by claiming that restrictions on deep linking are in the best interests of people seeking information. Heaven forbid people seeking some answers about a particular cancer treatment don't go through the main page. In other news, the American Cancer Society announces opposition to citations that reference a specific page number. "Citations should only be used to point out the fact that the reference is a publication of the American Cancer Society. Otherwise, people might be harmed by not being forced to look through all of our many fine publications," said the hypothetical spokesperson.
Slashdot readers continue the ridicule (Restrictive Linking Policies & The Net).
