C|Net News' Declan McCullagh brings the disturbing news that a student organization (Che Cafe Collective) at the University of California at San Diego is being threatened by the university administration and accused of violating federal law for linking to a group supporting the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia (FARC) (University bans controversial links). The law in question bans providing material support to terrorist groups, including "communications equipment." Somehow I doubt the law extends so far as to ban hyperlinks. Even if the law did so apply, it would be laughably inconsistent with the First Amendment.
Other sites that provide links to the suspect site include the BBC, UN Foundation, Princeton University Library, and the University of Texas ... oh, and Yale Law School.
