Hollow Shell of Napster to Relaunch in 2003
Posted by Ren Bucholz on Wednesday, February 26 @ 02:45:27 EST File Sharing
In the spirit of too-little-too-late reunion tours, Napster has cobbled together some familiar faces (Shawn Fanning), new blood (the RIAA), and they're makin' another run at the big time. The trouble is that the magic is gone, they can't play their old songs, and nobody but the suckers are going to buy tickets.

Roxio bought the former fat-cat's assets for $5.1 million in late 2002, and they're going to relaunch the service once deals are inked with the major labels. Though technical details are scarce, it seems that New Napster will just be a competitor for MusicNet and Pressplay, not the killer app it once was.

Biggest waste of $5.1 million ever. No one who used Napster when it was in it's hay day, would ever pay to download mp3s.
