Anti-Terrorism Bills Near Vote
Posted by Ernest Miller on Thursday, October 11 @ 19:30:25 EDT Civil Liberties
The New York Times (reg. req.) has an editorial endorsing the anti-terrorism bills in general, but calling for some additional changes in the surveillance and immigration detention sections (Patience and Antiterrorism). The editorial also favors the House bill's 2-year sunset clause. The Washington Post reports that the anti-terrorism bill in the Senate will move forward (including votes on Sen. Feingold's (D-Wis.) civil liberties enhancing amendments) while the airport security bill will be delayed (Anti-Terror Legislation May Gain a Vote Today). Writing for WIRED, Declan McCullagh takes an indepth look at Sen. Feingold's efforts (A Senator's Lonely Privacy Fight). Slashdot has a discussion (Anti-Civil Liberties Legislation Progresses). Of course, the Onion has the best coverage (Freedoms Curtailed in Defense of Liberty).
