The Second Television and Radio Authority
is the public authority that supervises commercial broadcasts is Israel. The authority decided to censor the broadcasting of a television show named “Urges”. The show, based on the format of sex-talk shows in “Playboy” channel, hosted a peep-show dancer and a sex-calls operator in the episode which was censored. Ladies were using “filthy words” to discuss sex in this show and mimicked orgasm and the authority decided that the show is inappropriate for broadcasting even at light night. The head of the authority defending the decision said: "A commercial broadcasting channel which addresses the public should be treated as a "cultural engine" and thus has to stand some restrains and to take public responsibility for its content".
The press started a public struggle against the censor and calls to broadcast the show. “Censorship is a much worse rudeness than broadcasting a female faking orgasm” calls Rogel
Alper in Haaretz. “Late at night we can talk explicitly and openly about sex in TV, with no hypocrisy and shamming piety, even if some people are shocked. No harm is caused…”. Citing the comedian Lenny Bruce Harratez concludes: "If you can't say fuck, you can't say 'fuck the government.'".
