David Kirkpatrick of Fortune.com notes with regret that the economic and digital disparity between affluent and poor countries today is astounding. Kirkpatrick takes a look at the five biggest tech trends and is refreshingly optimistic about the possible effect on the digital divide. He predicts these trends, including decreased costs and increased efficiency, might just contribute to raising the standards of living in struggling, war-torn or otherwise impoverished countries. If technology is readily available to any country, Kirkpatrick posits, we might be looking at closing the gap instead of further driving in the wedge between the "little guys" and the big ones.
