Internet Radio Not Dead Enough - RIAA
Posted by Ernest Miller on Thursday, August 08 @ 01:22:24 EDT Copyright
The Washington Post reports that the RIAA will be appealing the Librarian of Congress' recent decision on royalties for Internet radio (Recording Industry Will Appeal Net Radio Ruling). Proponents of Internet radio argue that the royalties are too high and will kill many independent stations. The RIAA seems more concerned with controlling distribution rather than fostering independent radio (see LawMeme's article Broadcast Radio Blues). C|Net News's John Borland reports that appeals are being readied by both sides of the argument (Webcasters, labels appeal Net radio fees). Read the RIAA's press release (RIAA Announces Intent To Appeal Internet Radio Royalty Rates).
