Private citizen Francis Uy dissuades spammers from sending junk emails by exposing their real identities on his own web site. Recently, Uy added George Allen Moore Jr. -- a.k.a. Dr. Fatburn -- to his blacklist.
Since then, Moore has received numerous packages, magazines and phone calls. He is now charging Uy with harassment, and has demanded that his name be removed from Uy's web site.
Francis Uy, on the other hand, claims that he has a First Amendment right to publish Moore's information.
The Washington Post report is here.
I don't think Uy has broken any laws. Dr. Fatburn runs a business, and therefore is a publicly visible entity. The fact that Moore is a spammer is irrelevant: consumers should have access to critical information about a business -- e.g., the identities of the people who run it.
