ISP Cooperation in Child Porn Crackdown
Posted by nimrod kozlovski on Saturday, December 01 @ 02:04:37 EST Civil Liberties
MSNBC carries a Reuters wire story about a multi-national raid on more than 100 child pornographers (Police make global child porn arrests). Read the official press release from Britain's National Crime Squad (Paedophile Arrests). The Guardian points out how one ISP (Demon Internet) cooperated with the police, permitting them to monitor visitors to 30 newsgroups (Nine held in net child porn raids). The enforcement agency is using this operation to justify a mandatory data retention requirement for all ISP's, claiming that the data is necessary to trace the suspects. ZDNet News has an interesting addendum, pointing out that police intend to use facial recognition software to assist in identifying the abused children in the seized material (Latest tech puts a face to porn victims).
