''Bootleg'' South Park Commentary Track
Posted by James Grimmelmann on Tuesday, November 26 @ 01:18:29 EST Clean Flicks
Entertainment Weekly reports (story not available online, sorry) that Comedy Central's 5-CD set of commentary on the first season of South Park, featuring Trey Parker and Matt Stone, was originally recorded as the commentary track for the official DVD.

During the recording sessions, the caustic co-creators couldn't control their desire to mock everything in sight, including movies from Warner, which was putting out the DVD set. After a particularly sarcastic rant about Contact, Warner lawyers tried to get permission from Jodie Foster to let the South Park pair insult her on the DVD. Negotiations between Warner and the duo then broke down and the two of them walked, taking their four and a half hours of commentary to Comedy Central, which was a little less beholden to synergy.

Of course, if there were a device that would keep the DVD and the CD in sync, the Director's Guild of America would probably be suing to block its distribution . . .
