Copynorms in the United States may be too permissive for the RIAA. But copynorms overseas are even worse.

People here are often fond of raging against the RIAA for overreacting to the threat of filesharing. But what would happen to the industry if, as in China, nine out of ten CDs worldwide were downloaded from the Internet and burned? Would this mean the death of creative content, or just the death of the RIAA and other big recording companies? Are there enough artists out there who love the act of creation enough to overlook a serious drop in revenue?
