Germany restricts C&C: Generals

Germany has restricted distribution of Electronic Art's newest real-time strategy game, Command & Conquer: Generals, because "[i]t portrays war as the only way to resolve conflicts. . . . It generally advocates war, and it gives military force an aesthetic appeal." The restrictions mean that C&C: Generals "may not be advertised or displayed on shelves in Germany, although [it] may be kept under store counters and sold to adults."

EA claims that Germany is restricting the game because of its disagreement with the US over the war in Iraq: one level in C&C: Generals depicts a siege of Baghdad, with the US Army battling the "Global Liberation Army," a fictitious terrorist group.
