.eu Domain Creeping Along
Posted by Rebecca Bolin on Saturday, October 16 @ 15:52:36 EDT Media Regulation
The EU has finally agreed on how it will govern the new .eu domain; the next step is ICANN's DNS authority. After this and several more hoops, the .eu domain registry will start. Estimates now place it at one year. Previous reports had estimated the domain would be operational by the end of this year, but delays have pushed this back almost a year now. Indeed, the tentative timetable of the issuing authority has been updated again showing what lies ahead. This project has been in the works since 1998, and it seems to keep getting pushed back. That said, EU agreement on running this domain is a large step toward the .eu domain.
