Artificial Hippocampus Unveiled
Posted by James Grimmelmann on Thursday, March 13 @ 22:40:19 EST Biometrics
Researchers are about to testing the world's first brain prosthesis in California. Having modeled the hippocampus -- a highly-structured part of the brain whose function isn't entirely clear but seems to relate to long-term memory -- scientists have developed what is effectively a hippocampus simulator in a chip. Tests on rats are expected to begin within six months.

Any bets on when the first DMCA anti-circumvention suit is brought against someone's brain? Will the broadcast flag eventually need to cover hippocampi? Will the Patriot Act be rewritten to include trap and trace orders for brain surveillance?
