Re: Search Warrant Not Required (Score: 1) by TomWiles on Saturday, November 09 @ 14:32:22 EST (User Info | Send a Message) | All arguments aside guys, just THINK.
If this system had been in place during the McCarthy era.
1. How would it have been used.
2. How many perfectly loyal citizens would have been crucified.
3. They probably would have collected enough 'evidence' to justify building a wall around my old alma mater (UCB) and just put in guard towers. A new prison complete with inamtes.
4. Dose anybody remember the Free Speach Movement and the forces that provided the seeds for the movement?
5. You put a weapon like this in the hands of bureaucrats and it WILL BE MISUSED (including for personal and political reasons).
6. Remember when NIXON tried to use IRS audits as a political weapon back in the seventies!!
7. I am a Republican.

This is very old news (Score: 1) by jonathanpeterson on Sunday, November 10 @ 10:01:29 EST (User Info | Send a Message) http://www.way.nu | Wired reported on this back in August and I did some research:

TIA is considerably worse than you mention, the data sources that will be collected include:
financial, education, travel, medical, veterinary, country entry, place/event entry, transportation, housing, "critical resources", government, and communications.
Essentially every transation between a citizen and any corporation or government entity is in scope for data collection and storage by the government.
That a convicted felon is running the agency is perhaps the scariest part. |
