The Elusive Illusion of Anonymity

Oh, the anonymity of auld lang syne
First, a Louisiana magistrate judge has ordered Homestead Technologies to cough up the identities of the anonymous publishers of the " Truth at ULM" website, which, among other things bemoans the decision to move from Division 1-AA to Division 1-A football. The site is published not by a pesky student, but by a professor at the school, says an article published by The Chronicle of Higher Education in December 2000. The administration responded with a webswipe of its own, at the cleverly claimed domain name: www.truthatulm.com. Newsbytes has coverage.

While the EFF has not stepped into this particular tussle, it is busy defending some other would-be anonymous speakers accused of defaming Metalclad.

It gives "Windows" a whole new meaning...XP maybe stands for XPrivacy?
On another front, Microsoft's XP is coming under EPIC fire for compromising users' privacy. See the EPIC letter. For background information, check out EPIC's long list of Passport gripes.
