Anonymous writes "A new lawsuit has been filed under the controversial Digital Millennium Copyright Act against distributors of DVD copying software. Filed in NY Federal Court, where the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals ruling against DVD decryption software is binding, the complaint seeks an injunction and damages for lost profits against a handful of small third-party distributors of DVD copying software. 20th Century Fox and Paramount filed the lawsuit to enjoin the distribution of software that helps
people make fair use copies of their DVD movies. The new case is similar to the pending litigation between the Hollywood movie studios and 321
Studios for creating DVD copying software, but this case will extend legal liability to distributors of software under the DMCA. The four small software distributors named in the suit were Tritton Technologies, QOJ, World Reach, and Pronto Ventures. Larger distributors of the
software, like CompUSA and Buy.com were not sued however. IP Justice published a media release about the case today:

(The legal complaint will be posted to the IPJ website shortly)."
