British Cracker, US Law

Apparently, in the course of last year a British citizen had broken into approximately 100 US military networks.

US officials claim to have identified the individual, and are now facing a fairly familiar scenario: the process of subjecting a foreign cracker to American laws.

Using apparently known but unpatched vulnerabilities of Microsoft products, the hacker managed to break into scores of military computers and then use some of those powerful machines to scan other machines.  Washington Post's, Brooke Masters, reports that "if the British courts agree to send McKinnon here, he would be the first person to be extradited to face hacking charges, said John Lynch, senior counsel at the Justice Department's computer crime unit." -Hermit !-|
