This has perhaps been up for a while, but I just discovered today that Google has a new feature in beta--the aptly named Froogle, which "applies the power of Google's search technology to a very specific task: locating stores that sell the item you want to find and pointing you directly to the place where you can make a purchase."
Lawmeme has posted about the power of Google recently, and this seems like yet another example of Google's reach. Of course, like all of Google's past expansions, this sounds like a great idea--but its even closer ties to the commercial world will likely stir up more controversy (notwithstanding Google's claim that "Froogle ranks store sites based only on their relevance to the search terms you've entered [and] does not accept payment for placement within our actual search results.")
