Links: Wiretaps Rarely Denied
Posted by Steven Wu on Monday, May 05 @ 12:11:27 EDT Privacy
According to this Washington Times article,
Only one wiretap order requested by state and federal prosecutors last year was refused, the first time in four years courts had rejected such a request, government data showed. . . . The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts said it was the first time since 1998 that a wiretap request was refused, and that only three other applications were denied among 13,164 filed over the last 11 years.
Either law enforcement officials are extremely conscientious about requesting wiretaps, or we've got a court system that doesn't know how to say "no."
