Microsoft's Windows Messenger Implicated in Spam

An advertising scam exploits an open port used by Microsoft's Windows Messenger software to deliver unsolicited advertising to users connected to the Internet and using the program.

AOL has blocked access to the port in order to prevent the unwanted practice.

Note that this refers to the old Windows Messenger service, which is accessed with the "net send" command, not to be confused with MSN Instant Messenger.
