Updates: Tasini, More Surveillance Cameras and Driver Privacy
Posted by Ernest Miller on Tuesday, July 10 @ 00:35:20 EDT News
Law.com has the latest (Fallout From 'Tasini') on Tasini v. New York Times. Other cities are following Tampa's lead in putting surveillance cameras on the street. thedesertsun.com reports (Palm Springs eyes security cameras) that the Palm Springs City Council is considering cameras to keep from hiring additional police. Added bonus: the video will be available on the Internet (password "protected" of course). The Virgina-Pilot reports (Beach may scan Oceanfront faces) that Virgina Beach wants to feed surveillance video into face recognition software. This would work well in Colorado, where the Denver Post notes (Colo. to 'map' faces of drivers) that the local Department of Motor Vehicles plans to use software and equipment that maps facial characteristics when drivers apply for licenses.
UPDATED

Slashdot discusses (Colorado May Map Drivers' Faces) Colorado's planned facial mapping.
Wired takes a look (Mr. Tasini, Meet Mr. Greenberg) at another copyright lawsuit that may be affected by Tasini.
