The FTC just closed commenting about CAN-SPAM's inquiry into a national Do-Not-Spam list (the Do-Not-E-mail Registry). Though the Do-Not-Call list recieved 63,000 comments, Do-Not-Spam recieved a sizable 13,000. However, about half of them were from the same group, the National Association of Realtors.
Its
criticism of Do-Not-Spam is somewhat coherent, though there are much better comments elsewhere. Seems all the other spammers actually limited themselves to one comment to at least feign reasonability on the FTC website. REALTORS(R) seems to think that forcing the FTC to process this many comments is supposed to make it pay attention to its position. Spamming will show them why we don't need a Do-Not-Spam list? Oops. To be honest, it is surprising this technique wasn't used by Do-Not-Spam advocates.
