Links: Justice Department Insists: It Cares About Internet Crime
Posted by Steven Wu on Friday, May 16 @ 15:41:02 EDT Computer Crime
The Associated Press reports that, despite other priorities, the Justice Department really does care about Internet crime. In a news conference, Ashcroft described this year's Internet investigations, dubbed "Operation E-con," to be "a decisive, nationally coordinated effort to root out and take action against some of the leading online, economic crime.''

Given the stridency with which various officials repeatedly emphasize just how important Internet crime prevention is, one gets the sense that the Justice Department has been under a lot of pressure to prove that it can do something about Internet crime. Unfortunately, the article provides no context to explain where this pressure is coming from, or why.
