Al-Jazeera's English Web Site Under Attack
Posted by Paul Szynol on Tuesday, March 25 @ 14:04:04 EST News
Al-Jazeera has placed online an English version of its web site.
The site (english.aljazeera.net) has promised to offer a different perspective than those of Western media and has stuck to its word. Its graphic photos of dead U.S. soldiers, pointed headlines and opinionated articles -- many of them without reporters' bylines -- will provide plenty of fodder for critics of the Middle Eastern news organization.
The site, however, has already succumbed to denial-of-service attacks.

For those not in the know, Qatar is a small country working towards integrating democratic values. One of which happens to be a "free press." Ironically, at the start of the war the United States contacted Qatar and requested they curb their outspoken, and incredibly independant, media. Qatari leadship replied that they couldn't do that, they have freedom of the press.

It amazes me that the US claims to do all of this in the name of democracy and manage to keep a straight face.

It is not clear that this is a DOS attack. Al-Jazeera is a very popular website right now. Perhaps this is simply a lot of people trying to hit a few servers? All we have right now is the word of Al-Jazeera. Is there any independent confirmation that this is a DOS attack?
