Concern for Civil Liberties Continues
Posted by Ernest Miller on Friday, September 21 @ 18:02:07 EDT Civil Liberties
The New York Times' (reg. req.) Cyberlaw columnist, Carl S. Kaplan, pens a good article on the law/technology issues involved in recently introduced legislation (Concern Over Proposed Changes in Internet Surveillance). The LA Times looks at airport passenger screening (Databases May Be Used to Screen Air Travelers) and publishes a commentary by YLS's own Bruce Ackerman (Sunset Can Put a Halt to Twilight of Liberty). FindLaw has an analysis piece that, among other things, discusses some of the First Amendment issues (The Civil Liberties We Need to Keep, and Those We Can Afford to Lose: Evaluating The Government's Proposals). In foreign news, the UK Telegraph reports on strengthened laws in Europe (EU tighten anti-terrorist laws). Declan McCullagh reporting for WIRED follows anti-terrorism legislation (Bush Submits His Laws for War). Wartimeliberty.com is keeping a close eye on all these issues.

ZDNet News continues domestic (DOJ: High-tech needed for anti-terror proposal) and international (Aust Defence won’t disclose stance on encryption) coverage.
CDT has updated information on the legislation (Response to September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks).
The editor of ComputerUser.com weighs in (Liberty and Justice for All).
