AOL Loses in Privacy Case
Posted by Paul Szynol on Monday, November 04 @ 20:29:14 EST Privacy
The VA Supreme Court has OK'd Nam Tai Electronics Inc.'s demand that AOL reveal the identity of one of its subscribers, who, Nam Tai alleges, had posted false and defamatory information about the company's stock.

AOL refused and, in defense of its position, argued that releasing the user's information would violate his/her First Amendment right to speak anonymously.

The VA Supreme Court ruled that the First Amendment issue should be settled by the CA court where the complaint was first filed; and that, in the meantime, AOL should turn over the goods.

AOL now has 10 days either to comply, or convince the court to change its mind.

Reuters reports here.
