The Washington Post looks at a variety of surveillance technologies being considered for use (Tech Companies See Market for Detection) and how the ACLU has responded to the crisis (Attacks Mute the ACLU's Voice). The New York Times (reg. req.) reports that concerns about the anti-terrorism bill cut across party lines (Bush Law-Enforcement Plan Troubles Both Right and Left), that there is a renewed debate concerning patriotism and free expression (In Patriotic Time, Dissent Is Muted), and that many government services for the poor (including Legal Aid) were not well-equipped to respond to the disaster (Destroyed Computer Links Leave Thousands of Poor People Without Welfare Benefits).
