The Washington Post is reporting that media giant AOL Time Warner is bringing suit against Microsoft over the Netscape browser, which AOL now owns(AOL Files Antitrust Suit Against Microsoft ). A federal appeals court found that Microsoft's decision to give Internet Explorer away for free and encourage service providers to distribute IE instead of Netscape was anticompetitive. As a result, AOL has filed this lawsuit demanding that Microsoft halt its business practices and pay damages.
Interestingly enough, under federal law, AOL would be entitled to three times the actual damages found by the court, if any.
Slashdot also has an ongoing discussion about this recent lawsuit.
