During the hostage crisis last week, a Chechen guerilla took away a cell phone from one of the hostages. Alas, the hostage had been on the phone with Ekho Moskvy, a very popular radio station in Russia, and the Chechen guerilla took advantage of the opportunity: he delivered an anti-war diatribe, which the radio station then posted on its web site.
The posting of the critique upset Russia's Press Ministry, however. The Ministry demanded that the interview be removed from the web site--by threatening to take the web site offline
The radio station complied.
Displeased with these tactics, however, Ekho Moskvy is now looking abroad to find a host for its web site, presumably in a country that has more robust free-speech protections.
