On August 29, LawMeme severely questioned the business model of a new copy-protected media format (kind of like mini-CDs) called DataPlay (DataPlay Discs - What's the Point?). Today we learn via Yahoo! News and the Hollywood Reporter that:
DataPlay, a company attempting to replace CDs as the music format of choice, has missed its announced release date and appears unlikely to survive. (DataPlay poised to close doors)
If, as Hollywood claims, they are interested in stopping piracy, why don't they pull out the stops in support of a format they allegedly favor and support? Guess they would rather have Congress do the work for them and get consumers to pay the bill.
LawMeme attempted to refrain from excessive gloating and claims of "We told you so," but, "We told you so." [via Gizmodo]
