Police Deny Photographer Arrested
Posted by Ernest Miller on Wednesday, December 11 @ 14:10:59 EST Civil Liberties
Last week, LawMeme linked to a story from 2600 in which a photographer claimed to have been arrested for taking pictures of a hotel near Denver in which Vice President Cheney was staying (Photographer Arrested under USA-PATRIOT). The Rocky Mountain News now reports that they are unable to verify the story and police deny the arrest or interrogation occurred (Police refute NY radio story). [via Instapundit]

Problem for citizens: it would be denied (Score: 0)

This story poses a severe problem for a citizen who wants to keep himself informed and make intelligent political choices. At first glance, this story is straight out of the "X-Files" or "Twilight Zone" and about as likely to be true.

But the problem is that, were the ruling powers to decide to take actions of this nature, they would of course have a cover story in place and destroy the evidence.

And it is not at all clear that the current administration really believes in abstract concepts like "civil liberties", much less "constitutional rights". So how does one evaluate this story?

Cranky

2600's On the Other Hand covered this story both last week and this week (Dec 04 and Dec 12). The show aired this week presented a follow-up to the interview they conducted last week of the photographer. Comments were read both for and against the story.
