House Elf Liberation Front Frees Harry Potter Film

Well, actually, it was pirates. However, it is unclear at this time whether the culprits were refugees from Robert Louis Stevenson's Disney's Treasure Planet or next summer's Pirates of the Caribbean, based on the famed audioanimatronic ride. [Note irony of Hollywood romanticizing piracy - Ed. Thought I just did - EM]

Actually, the headline should read: Popular Movie Released - Movie Studio Gets Free Publicity From Internet Piracy Claims - Reporter Gets Afternoon Break by Filing By-The-Numbers Story.

I was going to link to some wirestories that had been published earlier on this "news," but when WIRED feels that this is worth top billing this morning, I'll give them the credit (Harry Potter in Theaters, Online). WIRED even goes so far as to cite some comments from a Slashdot thread (Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets Leaked).

LawMeme has published the definitive guide on these stories before (The LawMeme Guide to Spider-Man and Star Wars Bootlegs). When will the last major story on movies that are bootlegged on the Internet be written?
