Russian Hacker Sentenced to Three Years
Posted by Paul Szynol on Friday, October 04 @ 18:16:23 EDT Computer Crime
On April 25, 2001, Pravda reported that two Russian hackers, Alexey Ivanov, 20, and Vasiliy Gorshkov, 25, were arrested in the United States. The arrest was part of FBI's operation FLYHOOK. "Agents created a mock 'start-up' Internet security company, which they titled 'Invita Computer Security.' Posing as security consultants, the Agents invited both men to Seattle, so that the hackers could peruse the company and discuss the possibility of becoming security consultants themselves. "

Today, to the chagrin of Russian authorities, Vasiliy Gorshkov was sentenced in Seattle to three years in prison.

The case, Reuters reports, "represents the first time the Federal Bureau of Investigation successfully enticed people of high-tech crimes to come to the United States, and its first 'extra-territorial seizure of digital evidence'".

Some country gets the balls to do this to US citizens. Preferably Russia in the next 3 years, and then offer to swap 'criminals', after putting them in prison for equivalent times. And deny illegality of any hacking attempts as gathering evidence....

I really hope they go after FBI agents or other government agents.

And I think I really will be AC this time, chilling effects of the Shrub have gotten to me.
