Implanted Monitoring Chips Being Studied in UK
Posted by Ernest Miller on Monday, November 18 @ 08:24:19 EST Privacy
The Observer reports that the UK Government is investigating the use of surgically implanted electronic tags to monitor convicted paedophiles (Surgical tags plan for sex offenders). Tracker, a British company that produces a product similar to the stolen vehicle recovery system made famous by LoJack, has already been approached for information by the government. Capabilities being studied include monitoring body functions, such as heart rate and blood pressure, as well as "reverse tags" which would note that an offender is somewhere they should not be, such as a school or day care center. There is a lovely quote from a spokesperson for a child abuse organization:
I am sick to death of it being acceptable that I am a victim because these people have to have their human rights.
