The Iranian authorities arrested 68 man and women in the last couple of days for using the Internet for E-dating (yep! For online romance, you got it right!). According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA)
the operator of the dating website was arrested as well for luring the youngsters for immoral activities. General Ahmad Rouzbehani told IRNA: "Some people were using an internet site to allow girls and boys to talk and arrange meetings in a place in north Tehran where they had illegal relations." The arrests were conducted by the militia which is responsible for morality enforcement in Iran. In addition, the law enforcement authorities confiscated hundreds of computers, satellite dishes and CD players. The authorities further publicly requested the families to be “more sensitive” to the youngster’s Internet usage.
While
Cybermaina took Iran by surprise "there has been a big rise in the number of Persian weblogs, online journals where cyber-diarists let the world in on their lives. There are more than 1,200 Persian blogs, which focus largely on social rather than political issues, such as the opposite sex, music and films" ( BBC News ).
