News.com is reporting that five major record companies, Universal Music Group, BMG Entertainment, EMI, Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music, have been handed a class-action lawsuit alleging that new CDs with anti-piracy measures are defective and should be barred from sale or should contain a warning label on them. The lawsuit was filed in California under their consumer protection statutes alleging that the products are
"defective".
The CDs that they are referring to are the ones that will not play on your PC, depending on your CD-ROM drive. LawMeme has reported earlier about the advanced technology used to break this anti-piracy measure.
