TiVo is ''God's Machine''
Posted by Ernest Miller on Friday, January 10 @ 22:32:41 EST Media Regulation
FCC Chairman Michael Powell has said the most amazing thing - that "TiVo is God's machine" - according to an AP wirestory published on SFGate.com (FCC's Powell declares TiVo 'God's machine'). Wow. Not only does Chairman Powell intend to copy television shows, he intends to move the recordings to other sets and even provide a copy to his sister:
Powell said he intended to use the TiVo machine to record TV shows to play on other television sets in his home, and even suggested that he might share recordings with his sister if she were to miss a favorite show.
Wow.

This gives me an idea. Perhaps we should start a fund to buy every member of Congress a TiVo or, preferably, a ReplayTV. If enough money is raised, perhaps one device for every member of the federal judiciary as well, at least the appellate level.

I suspect that free TiVos for legislators and judges would be considered improper gifts -- which is really too bad, because in the world of technology, sometimes a working thing is the best way to communicate an idea.
