Larry Ellison, chairman and CEO of database powerhouse Oracle, has proposed a national ID card featuring photo and fingerprint information that could be used to verify airline passengers. Oracle would supply the software to power this system gratis. SiliconValley.com has the story (Oracle boss urges national ID cards, offers free software). Slashdot discusses this idea (Ellison Wants National ID Card, Powered By Oracle). WIRED takes a look at national ID cards around the world (ID Cards Are de Rigueur Worldwide). On another international note, The Register reports on a poll showing that citizens of the UK favor National ID cards (Brits want ID cards, not worried about privacy).
