The Civil Liberties Debate Continues

The Washington Post reports that a coalition of several civil liberties groups (including the ACLU, CDT, EPIC and Free Congress Foundation) are forming to oppose excessive law enforcement following in the wake of the terrorist attacks (Anti-Terror Push Stirs Fears for Liberties). The New York Times (reg. req.) sees a new world of increased surveillance (Technology's Role to Grow in a New World of Security). ZDNet News reports the Attorney General's request for enhanced investigative powers (Ashcroft: Relax surveillance laws). EFF has issued an action alert opposing the proposed wiretap law (Ask Congress to Legislate to Improve Security Not Eliminate Freedoms) [Deadline Sep. 21].
