ACLU and Berkman's Edelman Sue Over Blocking Lists
Posted by Robert Heverly on Thursday, July 25 @ 11:57:39 EDT Copyright
The ACLU has posted a press release on its Web site announcing a suit it has filed today on behalf of the Berkman Center's Ben Edelman. The ACLU has also posted the complaint (pdf) and a "feature" on the case. Edelman v. N2H2, Inc. seeks a declaratory judgment that the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (pdf) violates the First Amendment by preventing researchers from discovering, analyzing and distributing research regarding the content of lists used by companies such as N2H2. Edelman is engaged in research on Internet filtering and blocking programs (among other projects), and is seeking access to the list of blocked sites that is utilized by N2H2's filtering software.
