Digital certificates to fight e-mail hoaxes at Yale
Posted by Nimrod Kozlovski on Wednesday, March 05 @ 17:57:15 EST Computer Crime
Yale University considers implementing digital certificates technology to prevent E-mail Hoaxes. An e-mail hoax that caused some students to miss classes and angered the administration could now lead to changes in Information Technology Services policy. The Yale Daily News reports: “Instead of using a Web site, Clark said the use of digital certificates could be a more useful way of ‘making official e-mails look more official’…When you receive a certificate -- which is very difficult to forge -- an e-mail client is going to tell you whether it is a valid certificate".

This will probably just make it easier to perform a hoax, since most people don't know how to properly check the validity of a digital certificate.
