The New York Times reports that a group of athletes has won a lawsuit claiming that defendants surreptitiously videotaped the athletes in locker rooms and showers and then sold those tapes on the Internet.
The attorney for the plaintiffs claims that the judgment was "a clear statement by the court that the wild, wild Web is going to have to follow the rule of law." The article continues, "It was her [the attorney's] hope that the ruling would spur national legislation to make it illegal to film people in private places like bathrooms or locker rooms, or to take videos that show beneath women's skirts, without their knowledge or consent."
As a final interesting note, one of the plaintiffs commented that the judgment was "a good win, as far as getting the sickness out of this world.... Previously, you just assumed you had privacy.... Now you don't assume that anymore." Indeed.
