MSNBC is reporting on the new version of the Netscape browser, version 7.01, recently released by AOL. Version 7.01 has the ability to block pop-up windows, usually used for ads, from appearing on the user's computer if he or she enables the blocking feature. Other browsers have already implemented this technology, but none are as widely accepted and utilized as the Netscape browser.
What effect will this have on the online advertisement industry? More importantly, if our web browers can now block advertisements from popping-up all over the place, why can't we do the same thing with television and skip commercials?
