Shirky on WiFi, VOIP and ZapMail
Posted by Ernest Miller on Wednesday, January 08 @ 11:07:35 EST Telecommunications
Clay Shirky has a great new article analogizing telephone companies' attempt to control POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) in an age of WiFi with FedEx's abortive ZapMail program (in which you could go to the local FedEx place to fax something) (Customer-owned Networks: ZapMail and the Telecommunications Industry). VOIP is coming, and the implications are just beginning to be understood. [via BoingBoing]
